This morning I was talking to a dear friend of mine who lived in American.
I meet this wonderful lady and her family through reborns and I am so thankful that I did.
During the conversation somehow we got onto the differences between the names of items we use everyday for our reborns.
So I decided to have them all in one place here and see what everyone uses.
So the obvious one is Dummy or Pacifier.
A Buggy is also known as a Stroller
A Cot is also a Crib
A Nappy is also a Diaper
A Pram is also called a Baby Carriage
A Teat is also a Bottle Nipple
A Moses Basket is also known as a Bassinet
a onesie is a vest to you.
Something I’ve noticed is a term you use, is to give a baby “a feed”, or their morning “feed”. People in
Australia also seem to use that term. In America we say we are going to “feed” the baby, or it’s time for their morning “feeding”, usually it’s morning bottle, etc. Another difference I’ve heard, is the term “bits” being used to describe the babies hair bows, barrettes, etc. The word “bits” is also used when you say “boy bits”, or “girl bits”, which is being used more often here although not so much in the past. I guess we pick up certain words or phrases that seem to work best so that everyone is on the same page.
